Vectren Ends 2005 with $2.1
Million in Donations
EVANSVILLE, Ind., April
19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With the release of its annual community report
this week, Vectren Corporation (NYSE: VVC) announced that it awarded $2.1
million in 2005 through the Vectren Foundation and corporate gifts, while
Vectren's employees, 1,800 strong, logged more than 15,000 hours of community
service.
The 2005 allocation, the
highest amount awarded since the company's inception in 2000, reached more
than 500 nonprofit and civic organizations throughout Vectren's Indiana
and Ohio utility service territories. Since April of 2000, the Indiana-domiciled
energy holding company has donated nearly $10 million.
Significant outreach efforts
in 2005 included:
* United Way: Employee donations
combined with matching funds and corporate gifts from the Vectren Foundation
topped $730,000. Vectren employees were among the leading companies in
leadership giving ($1,000 gifts or higher) with 124 members, 104 of which
were in southwestern Indiana.
* Bright Ideas: Another $25,000
was awarded to 53 teachers through the company's classroom enrichment grant
program, Bright Ideas, which is co- sponsored by Peyton Manning's PeyBack
Foundation and further supported by Dr. Suellen Reed and the Indiana Department
of Education.
