Vernalis
is a new force in UK biotechnology formed out of the September 2003 merger
of British Biotech plc and Vernalis Group plc. This merger has created
a company with significant growth potential, through sales of its marketed
product, frovatriptan, the successful development and commercialisation
of its product pipeline candidates, and through further participation in
the consolidation of the UK biotechnology sector.
The
Company’s most advanced product, frovatriptan, has received regulatory
approval in the US and in 15 European countries for the acute treatment
of migraine. Further studies are under way to develop the product as an
oral prophylactic for menstrual-associated migraine, a condition thought
to affect as many as half of the 15%-20% of all women who suffer from migraine.
Supporting
frovatriptan are a range of clinical and pre-clinical development programmes
targeting large potential markets - principally thrombotic diseases, pain
and Parkinson's disease.
This
pipeline is supplied by research programmes exploiting our distinctive
structure based drug discovery and CNS biology capabilities, investigating
the potential of a variety of novel molecules and targets in the fields
of oncology, obesity, inflammation and depression.
