Issu de la fusion en 1990 de Sky et de BSB, BSkyB regroupe plus de 375 chaînes de télévision réparties en 9 catégories principales : divertissement (23 chaînes), actualités et documentaires (20, Sky News, Bloomberg, National Geographic Channel, etc.), cinéma (28), chaînes gratuites (43, Channel 5, BBC One, Euronews, CNN, etc.), musique (23, MTV, Smash Hits, VH1, etc.), enfants (10, Cartoon Network, Fox Kids etc.), sport (9, Sky Sports News, Eurosportnews, etc.), chaînes à la carte (60), télévision par péage (83) et autres (15).
BSkyB diffuse par ailleurs 87 stations de radio via satellite.
