CHANGE
OF COMPANY NAME TO ATLANTIA SpA APPROVED :
Change of name forms part
of restructuring designed to provide clearer definition of roles and corporate
missions of Autostrade SpA and Autostrade per l'Italia SpA
Rome, 4 May 2007 – The
Annual General Meeting of the shareholders of Autostrade SpA, chaired by
Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, was held today. During the extraordinary session,
the Meeting resolved to amend article 1 of the articles of association
in order to change the Company’s name to Atlantia SpA.
The change of name forms
part of a wide-ranging restructuring designed to:
- strengthen the Company’s
identity as a holding company responsible for investments and portfolio
strategies, capable of supporting organic and selective growth in the infrastructure
and network management sector, but without having any direct operational
role;
- better distinguish
the Company’s role in respect of government institutions, the market and
the financial community;
- maintain Autostrade
per l’Italia’s role as an operating parent company involved in the management
of infrastructure under concession.
The chosen name, which
is taken from the myth of Atlas, who according to Greek mythology was ordered
by Zeus to bear the weight of the heavens, makes reference to the concepts
of globality, strength, solidity and responsibility, perfectly reflecting
the Company’s growing internationalisation.
“Atlantia has been chosen
to reflect the Group’s evolution from an entity responsible for managing
a toll motorway network, located mainly in Italy, into a manager of infrastructure
in its widest sense at international level,” commented the Chairman, Gian
Maria Gros-Pietro, who added: “A streamlined, agile and dynamic organisation,
open to dialogue and partnerships, which will have responsibility for implementing
sustainable development strategies and helping to drive selective organic
growth in the infrastructure sector in Italy and overseas.”
Announcement of the effective
date of the resolution approving the change of name will be made in due
course.
