Based
in Helsinki, UPM-Kymmene is the world's largest manufacturer of printing
papers It is particularly strong in magazine paper (5.5 million tonnes
capacity, 20% of global demand). The emphasis on papermaking (8.3 million
tonnes, 70% of revenue) has proven to be a happy choice, producing 82%
of operating profit. UPM-Kymmene is also focused on Europe, which accounts
for 80% of sales and $8.9 billion in 2001 revenue. It has plants in 17
countries and 930,000 hectares of Finnish forest.
