The Group's principal activity is the production of specialty metals and metallurgical vacuum furnace systems. The Group operates in three segments: Advanced Materials, Timminco and Engineering Systems. Advanced Materials manufactures and sells specialty metals, alloys and metallic chemicals. Timminco consists of two major items: Magnesium alloys, that provide corrosion protection and weight reduction to durable and leisure goods and to construction; and silicon metal including solar grade silicon which improves conductivity, provides corrosion resistance and increases harness for the electronic, solar-photovoltaic, chemical and aluminum industries. Engineering Systems supplies processes and services in the field of vacuum process technology. The Group acquired FNE Forschungsinstitut fur Nichteisen-Metalle Freiberg GmbH in 2007.
